I have been a Substitute Teacher for local school districts and chose to work part time since I was caring for my elderly father who passed away in 2012. The cliche saying of "practice makes perfect" does not stray too far from the core of my teaching philosophy, however I do differ on a key point. I believe that practicing anything (whether or not it relates to academics) can only be done successfully if certain foundational skills are present; just as a baseball player, regardless of inherent talent, will fail if they do not know how to hold a bat correctly, so will an English student fail, regardless of the inherent quality of their thought processes, if they do not understand how to properly structure an essay. That way I know they are grasping the concepts. That is more important to me then speeding through a course just to get things done. A Little Bit About Me...

I graduated from the University of Washington last year with a BA in Journalism. I've also received an AA Degree from Highline Community College. Unlike many Journalism students, I have experience in arithmetic like algebra, pre-calculus and calculus. I've tutored students in math and writing, from first graders to college peers.
I am a very patient, hands-on style of tutor. I take the time and try to explain things to people who have a hard time understanding. I try to gage what the student is struggling with and also what they do understand, so I can quickly pinpoint their troubles and focus on the problem issue.
