More About This Tutor...

Over 13 years of working with students that were not scholars initially. After learning skills to improve their educational/learning experience, they became more scholarly, and enjoyed learning. This is key. They just need to change their perspective, and learn how to make "learning" enjoyable, like it was in kindergarden.
My teaching style is interactive, many of my former students would characterize it as "coaching". I always empower the student to find their way and to have them become "pros" in the learning process. I do not do the work for them, but I show them how they can make their tasks and finishing them more efficient. I am a firm believer in the philosophy that edication is not preparation for life, it is life itself. Experience is key.

More About This Tutor...

I had volunteered my time to tutored some kids in my neighborhood. This was the time while i was in college. I have tutored the subject of Math 8th grade level and Math in the second grade level. I have volunteered to tutored a friend in college the subject of French at Hunter College. She received a good grade and was happy. I was able to make a good impact on their learning and achievement.
I would explain to the students the rule of grammar in French and the rule of mathematics, set up some problems for them to resolve and this way they have a very good understanding of the subjects and able to perform on the subject independently.

As a teacher of English (ESL) and Spanish, my insight lies in the experience of being a second language learner. I have been in the position of having to learn a second language, which has given me greater empathy and understanding for students. Individuals need to encounter the language naturally, and to produce it in the way that native speakers utilize the language. Students learn visually, others auditorily, while some in a tactile/kinesthetic manner. I understand that incorporating different methods of presenting information will facilitate a student’s learning. I find inspiration in equipping people with the tools they will need to succeed and prosper. "Learning tells you how to teach" is the guiding philosophy of my teaching style.
In my extensive experience studying, living and traveling in such countries as Spain, Nicaragua and Argentina I have become fluent and able to sp ... read more

I have several years experience working with children and adults in the education field. The students I have taught at the college level ranged from late teens to early 30s. As I have worked with such a wide range of ages I am familiar with the needs of students in each age group I have taught. I work with the student to understand the areas in which they are not as strong or confident and work with them to develop a method of studying and learning that works best for them. I believe that one of the most beneficial methods of learning material is to relate the material to something the student may be more familiar with or something with which they can relate.

A Little Bit About Me...

I am a very interactive, do-it-yourself kind of educator. There is nothing more liberating and inspiring than understanding and recognizing the limitlessness of one's own ability. With just the right push from me, our children can reach unbeleivably great heights!
I do not have a lot of experience in the teaching field but I am a natural born teacher. I have been a mentor to many people in my life; friends, co-workers, even family members would say the same. If given the opportunity I will be able to grow with and enjoy the success of all my students. We will indulge in the passion of education!

A Little Bit About Me...

Working with students and education has been a part of my life for about 11 years. I first began doing so in high school, around 1999 working as a volunteer with the YMCA. Eventually I became a counselor and would work my way up to Camp Director. I am proud to say that I am the first of my family to attend a University. Currently I am a senior at Cuny Lehman College in the Bronx, NY where I study English Literature and minor in Secondary Education. Recently I have just returned from studying at the University of Puerto Rico in Rio Piedras. The year abroad helped me to better understand my culture and gain a stronger grip on my native language. I believe education is truly the key to success.

I am a strong believer that we all have our own way of learning and it is important to be flexible to the needs of each individual. I have worked as a Counselor for Disabled Adults and see that no matter where a person is developmentally, there is a way to help them achieve a higher level. Patience, creativity and providing a non-judgemental environment are key to helping children and even adults to achieve success. Even the smallest steps forward are still steps forward and should be acknowledged and praised.

A Little Bit About Me...

I am a patient, calm teacher with a desire to help students develop the sort of conscientiousness and self-discipline they need to make academic success a personal goal. I have worked in a variety of teaching situations, ranging from Hebrew school classrooms of almost twenty students to one-on-one sessions with children with autism. Most of my work has been with ages 8-13. I believe that positive reinforcement, along with a firm adherence to structure are keys in successful learning. A Little Bit About Me...

I have always known I wanted to work with children. I enjoy working in classrooms, as well as in the more relaxed settings, such as summer and after-school programs. I graduated in 2005 from the State University of New York at New Paltz with a Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education, and a concentration in Spanish. I have used my educational knowledge as a substitute teacher, working in grades K-12. I have also had the wonderful opportunity to work on a cruise ship for 3 years, starting out in the youth program onboard.
I believe all children deserve to be given the chance to learn. I understand that not everyone learns the same way; differentiated forms of instruction are an important part of the day to day teaching method. I find that I am patient with children, allowing them to work at their own speed, and encouraging them to work to the best of their abilities. I encou ... read more

I have a very patient approach to teaching others and always take special care to cater to different learning styles. I can adjust my tutoring style under almost any circumstances to accommodate each and every student based on their strengths and interests. I believe learning can be fun and interesting so long as the instructor is enthusiastic and holds the student's full attention for the duration of the instructional session. My overall style is based on the repetition and review of topics while implementing simplistic and relevant examples for a better understanding of concepts.

More About This Tutor...

I'm Alfred University Graduate student in Literacy Education, graduating in May, 2010. I attended AU for my undergrad work in Elementary education. During my time here I was able to do my student teaching, which were the best learning experiences I've had. During the summer of 2009, I tutored a young girl in ELA, to help with her speech and language impairment, which was very hands-on and a pleasure learning about her. With my graduate work I am with a literacy specialist to gain more knowledge in that area. I also get to work 1/1 with a young individual who is in third grade, with a Pre-K reading level. With all of these experiences I have gained more knowledge within education, and I hope to teach and inspire young individuals.
When I am teaching my students, I am someone who has passion in all of the work that I do. I've always wanted to be a teacher and I want to make a positiv ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I believe teaching is more than just showing how to solve a problem, but is helping the student to discover the “bigger picture”. For that reason, I ask a lot of questions to ensure that a student is not just learning by rote, but understands a topic within its larger context. In that way, he or she is learning not only how to solve a particular problem or answer a specific question, but also how to apply it to other problems in the future. I also like to make problems relevant. Students often complain that there is no reason to study something – math, for example. But I like to show that indeed, they use it all the time and that it can be fun. Learning should not only be effective, but enjoyable as well.
At my Ivy League college, we were taught not just facts, but how to learn. This invaluable skill has stood me well and put me in an excellent position to teach. I have continued ... read more
