I have mostly worked with college students, teaching writing and introduction to literature courses. As a college instructor, I stressed the importance of grammatically correct writing for the person’s career inside and outside college. It is also important to understand that writing is a skill that requires constant practice. Like membership in a gym, taking a writing class does not guarantee immediate success without persistent and regular practice. Finally, I encourage my students to be as thorough as possible in their analyses and writing. It is through attention to detail that we come to understand how language works and use this understanding to communicate effectively. As an English graduate, I have always been interested in reading and interpretation of texts. Be it a poem, an essay, or a novel, I find it immensely satisfying to examine the laws and cultural contexts of the text.
