I have always thought of myself as a progressive teacher. I always thought children could learn to do anything they were asked to do. I always loved learning and felt it was my obligation to instill the same in all my students, no matter what age. I feel all students are influenced by the use of art and music to learn and that is what I use. I know I can make a difference in each child and give them a healthy learning environment. I will teach them to the best of my ability and help them reach their full potential. I went to Ohio State in Art, then graduated at Ohio U. I taught 14 years in Florida and Ohio , grades 1 through 12; all subjects. I taught using primarily Art and music. My areas of expertise are Reading, Literature, English, and the arts. I strongly believe in differentiated learning. Each student, with the help of a qualified educator, should discover which learning style (or combination of styles) works best for them. They can then employ techniques to make learning and retention of information learned easier for them. I am a "hands on" teacher...research has proven that we remember what we have physically or manipulatively participated in. I have a great sense of humor, which serves to make learning a fun journey! And when I say journey, I do mean that the trip to the desired end location (tutoring goal) should be fun, exciting, and enjoyable! I like to get to know the person with whom I am working so I can find the best style for that person. Whether it is visual, auditory or kinetic. I find the way that person learns and then I help them on their level. Besides my formal education, I have helped many people while working for Disabled Student Services at Florida Community College at Jacksonville. I helped my blind boss understand the needs of her deaf students. I helped a disabled boy with Algebra and I helped my mom with her math when she went back to college.
