My comments on tutoring Writing Skills : My own children have given me quite the experience in grade-school homework and skills

My primary goal is to help students understand the "why" of studies. "Why" do we look for differentials in calculus? "Why" do we describe imagery in poetry instead of just saying how we feel? "Why" do we enter compound keys in some SQL tables but not others? "Why" do we need a conclusion on our essay? If we understand why we do something, we are far more likely to remember how to do it. I also strive to keep the homework the work of the student. They do the work, I guide them to the correct (or at least best) answer. Students are more likely to remember how to complete the problem if they are in the driver seat, not the tutor.

With more than nine years of business experience in both Finance and Operations management and five years as a homemaker raising my four children, I have a very diverse level of experience which I will provide as a tutor. I belive the key to teaching is Patience! Not everyone learns the same way so you cant always teach the same way. The best way to teach is to find the way that the individaul learns whether its through reading, seeing, or listening to the material. I like to try to provide many examples that they can relate to so that it will stick with them.
As a recent graduate and former tutor I still have a strong drive for learning and helping others to learn. I had two areas of study while attending college, they were Business and accounting. If the material is presented in a manner where students can recall past experiences in their lives, it is much more likely to gain their attention and interest.
