My approach to teaching is to provide what is needed, and sometimes that is not limited to the explicit task at hand. As an English teacher/tutor, I have often found that, rather than merely showing students how to recognize a complete sentence and use correct punctuation and grammar, the more important thing is to prove to them that they can think, and that they are intelligent. To this end, I use gentle Socratic questioning to stimulate students, loosen them up, get them interested, and increase their comfort. I would describe my teaching style in terms of the activity, belaying. Slack is given to the rope at times so that the climber may advance, or traverse, the face of the mountain. When the climber feels tired, or incapable, the rope needs tightening so the climber stays secure. If the climber falls from the face of the mountain the taught rope will prevent injury or possible demise. I tend to give my students slack when I feel they are advancing in terms of curriculum, yet once I notice their tendency to rest, or falter, I tighten my teaching approach by using more straightforward methods so that they are not confused, or do not wear themselves out with struggle. This program was for kids 3-10 years old where they were taught how to listen to instructions and communicate with one another. This was mixed in with games that helped their motor skills and ultimately helped them with their soccer skills. I have learned it is very important to be enthusiastic and passionate with the kids.

I was raised in a family of teachers. Both my parents have been teachers, and my older brother and sister are both currently teachers. As an psychiatric technician at Napa State Hospital, I was chosen to become a trainer, teaching a new computer system being implemented to nursing and other staff throughout the hospital. I developed classes and created lesson plans for those classes, as well as providing individual training. I held this position for 2 years.
I believe a large part of teaching is to find ways of motivating students to learn. I like to show my students how what they are learning applies to their everyday lives. I use Google extensively to look for similar examples to the problems the student might be having. I believe that it is best to solve any given problem in at least two different ways if you really want to get some insight. It also helps in either verifying your answer or checking if you are in the ballpark.
