Teaching and School Counseling Services In One Place!

My style of education is to teach by modeling. Students need to see things in a step-by-step format with instructions, followed by an immediate example. I also provide sample argumentative essays for students who learn by seeing a complete model. My counseling style is to work with students, first by building a rapport and then using that as the foundation to get a feel for their college/career interests. I then look at their grades to help them build a custom transitional plan into early adulthood.
I have been a teacher for the last fifteen years. My ultimate aim would be to teach the student how to successfully learn on his own. I would first determine the set of circumstances unique to each student. For example, are they far behind their class or just having problems grasping some concepts? I would modify my teaching style depending on the situation, but in general I identify facts that need to be memorized and concepts that need to be understood. We would work through material, in a textbook, for example. Finally the student must apply logic and related skills (algebra, for example) needed for problem solving. Problem solving ties facts and concepts together and brings a deeper comprehension of and familiarity with the subject.
