My comments on tutoring Pre-Algebra : Passed with A's. Spent over fifty hours doing on-the-spot tutoring this and other math subjects on-the-spot.

I am used to student-led teaching. The students choose the topic they feel they need the most help with. I walk him/her through an example problem or two and then he/she does a few alone. Once I feel that he/she is comfortable with the topic, I ask whether he/she would like to try any more. This allows the student to take control of their time and learning experience, which is often much more interesting and enjoyable for them. However, I am open to going through the book consecutively. This would allow me to practice and prepare for each lesson specifically. I would continue personalizing the education experience.

Each student I had tutored when I was in college I had basically spoke with them, got to learn what they strong points were, their weaknesses, and areas that needed more base learning. I tailored lesson plans to help fill in their educational gaps, created small weekly assignments, and also helped with their current homework/lesson plan. I believe everyone learns in different ways. I like to believe I have the ability to speak with all children and teenagers in a way they can understand. I feel like I can take something that may look like an unsolvable 1,000 piece puzzle and turn it into something that will start looking like a 200 piece puzzle.
