Tutoring should serve the student's benefit in both the short-run and long-run. In the short run, I make sure the student has his or her specific questions answered thoroughly and the specific concept learned. I also teach students to be independent thinkers so that in the long run, they are trained to apply a logical, systematic problem-solving approach to a wide variety of academic situations and have a fluent understanding of the subject they are learning. At the same time, I also aim to ensure that the tutoring has led to tangible results in of academic improvement.

I believe all children can learn, but that all children learn differently. Having taught special education, I had a range of grade levels in my class. Very often the students would be spread out over three grade levels. Because of this, I am extremely good at tailoring my instruction to different levels and learning types. I try many different approaches to cater to different learning styles. Ultimately, I choose the method based on it's success and also how much the student enjoys it. Ultimately, the student needs to enjoy learning.
I have been a camp counselor, tutor, coach and teacher. I have taught English in Ghana, preschool in Argentina and special education in the Bronx. As a chemistry graduate student, I have held the following roles: Senior Teaching Assistant for Undergraduate Organic Chemistry Labs, Teaching Assistant for Organic Chemistry Major's Labs, Teaching Assistant for Organic Chemistry I and II. I have extensive experience in tutoring; however I specialize in organic chemistry due to my background and teaching style. I have tutored individually, in groups, and even whole classrooms. I have substituted as a teacher for organic chemistry professors. I have excellent communication with my students and I have only had one student receive a grade lower than a C in organic chemistry while I've tutored them.
My teaching philosophy centers on individual learning. The first priority is to determine what method is best for getting an individual to process information. The second step is then to breakdown the material and removing the myth that a t ... read more

As a recipient of an Associates Degree Summa Cum Laude; I have and more importantly my students have experienced success within and outside of the classroom. Twenty-one out of twenty-four 4th graders under my tutelage increased MAP scores by over 20 points on average when the objective was just for 8 points. My proficiency in instructing in reading, writing, English Language Arts, and comprehension led to me being entrusted with conducting an enrichment program at my school over 1,300 students that led to me receiving 2 awards of Excellence of Service Award and Paraprofessional of the Month. My PLT scores were in the top 15% with 190 out of 200 that led to a Recognition of Excellence Certificate indicating this proficiency.

I truly enjoy my teaching profession. The moment when a student who has been struggling for understanding starts to put all the information together and applies it is "priceless". My teaching style always includes getting to know and understand the "learning style" of the student or students. If the initial technique does not work then I will keep trying different methods to present the material until the student and I agree that the subject has been mastered. I have been given a lot of patience and it will take a lot to get me frustrated. I am the type of person that is a problem-solver and I will not give up until the problem has been resolved. In other words; I will not give up on any student.
My teaching experience includes almost all of the science disciplines. I have taught classes in Anatomy and Physiology, Physical Science, Physics, Biology, chemistry, Earth ... read more

I love having students learn through a hands-on approach and incorporating as much "real-world" scenarios in my teaching as possible. If students are unable to associate with what they are learning, they are often incapable of really understanding the concepts and retaining what they learn. I also think it's very important for students to have fun while learning so that they will invest the time and effort into continuing education.
My formal experiences as an educator began as an intern at Hawk Mountain Sanctuary where I educated visiting students on natural history and biology. This was when I realized how much I enjoyed teaching and the mutual learning environment. Since then I've had the opportunity teaching at the middle grades (full-time teacher at a local middle school), high school (through a fellowship at a local university), and college level (as an instructor at a local ... read more

I currently am employed by the Chatham County School System as a long term substitute and as a Math Resource teacher. I was picked up this years by East Broad Elementary School to help many students to pass the CRCT. I have references letters from the Principals and several math teachers at the same school. I amd will soon be graduating from Armstrong Atlantic with a Masters of Art and Teaching, with concentrations in Math and Science Middle Grades. During the past few years I decided to change career paths and work with children on the educational level.
My teaching style, is to find the way the child learns best. Math can be taught thru several different methods or strategies. I really enjoy children and have found that it is just a minor thing or so that causes them to not like math, but when they see that there is more than one way to solve problems they change their minds. Hey there. I am a medical school drop out. I have my bachelors in biology, with minors in botany, chemistry and economics. I wandered through many subjects and interest in school. I have tutored fellow students in my undergrad and in med school. I have a good understanding of algebra, economics, chemistry, physiology and writing papers. I cannot tell you I will be the best tutor on your roster, but I have crossed paths with many students that were ready to throw in the towel and have helped them bring their average to a b level before the semester was out.
I do enjoy helping students with their problems. I have a technique of visualization. for example, which is the first example I use. I tell the student to think of a tree. in the seconds you think of a tree, you don't think of just the tree. you think of the roots, the trunk, the limbs, the branches, the leaves. then you think o ... read more

I graduated with a double major from Fairfield University where I was involved with volunteer groups that tutored middle school aged children from surrounding areas. Over the years I have also spent time as a nanny and have been in charge of homework and school projects. I am confident that my nurturing and energetic personality is the perfect combination to engage children to want to excel.
I truly enjoy working with children and would love to go back to school and obtain my Masters in education. I feel that each child has their own way of connecting to education and it's a magic moment when you, the teacher, find and help them utilize that connection. I am calm and patient, bubbly and outgoing, creative and responsible. Most importantly, I love helping people and being an individual that can make a difference.

While planning for a career in medicine, I obtained a BS in biology with a minor in Chemistry. During the application and acceptance process I was an adjunct faculty member at a local technical college. My courses taught were remedial Algebra, biology, and anatomy and physiology. During the hours between classes I was a paid Tutor in the college's learning assistance center.
I wouldn't have a "professional" description for teaching style as my education was solidly based in the sciences. However, I believe that by teaching intuitive thought processes and critical thinking skills, students can easily adapt to the tasks given be they in science or liberal arts.
