I have been a tutor for the past 4 years working for the No Child Left Behind Program. I taught English/Grammar/Writing to pre-schoolers through 5th graders. I am an excellent reading tutor/teacher. I have supplies and material that help children to have fun while learning English. Most of my children hate to see me leave when tutoring assignments have ended. I care about my students and will go to all lengths to help them to progress. I have worked with learning disabled children.
I use age appropriate workbooks to help children to practice English. I read enjoyable books to children and have them read back to me while questioning them on the logic and content of the books. A teacher must care about people. It is not enough to have the knowledge of the material. You must be very aware of body language and read the group to determine if you need to restate the concept. A good teacher will ask a question and will not answer until a group discussion occurs. A good teacher ensures the group feels comfortable to think outside the box withou fear of embarrassment. Use of several medias in addition to course material is key to keep the attention of the group. However, again, none of this is effective if you do not have a genuine desire to see the knowledge you have of the material transferred to the individuals receiving the message.
