ORTON-Gilingham multi sensory approach. Math without words until the concept is mastered. Using lots of manipulatives including video games, that teach concepts.
I Have worked for the Davis County School district for 12 years. The last few years I have been working intervention for students who are not performing at grade level. I have learned that not all kids can learn the way they are taught in school. My 8 year old is dyslexic. I Have studied the Orton-Gilingham multisensory approach to reading and spelling. I have also learned to engage children in activities that are fun and creative. I will not be doing the same teaching style as there school.

A Little Bit About Me...

After finishing my Masters Degree in Education I taught one year in a private school then opened my own business tutoring primarily homeschool students during the school year. The students I have worked with are primarily ages 11-18, but my experience with my own children includes the primary grades. I have tutored most subjects including reading, writing, science, history and math (through algebra).
I believe that children are born smart. Some of them have special learning challenges and some have been taught to believe that they are not smart. By treating children as though they are intelligent and providing encouragement and learning opportunities, I have seen children grow and progress in almost astonishing ways.
