I believe in taking a casual approach in tutoring. From previous experience, I have found that many times students understand the material but tend to get flustered in a classroom environment. I provide guidance when needed, but sometimes students just need someone there to talk it out with them. If this is the case I like to ask questions until they find the answers themselves. This method not only teaches them the material, but also builds confidence because they realize they can figure out much of it themselves.
I worked for Kankakee Community College for one year as a Math and Spanish tutor in 2006 and 2007. During this year, I honed the mathematics I learned through high school as well as the four years of Spanish I had taken to that point. A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style is one which engages the student actively in the learning process. I have used the "popcorn" technique in a classroom, where I call out "popcorn", then call on someone at random. This ensures that each student in the class is following, or else they lose their turn to read. If I'm working w/ a student w/ poor reading skills, I allow them to read, and help them w/ the difficult words, encouraging them to sound out the word. I also try to engage models, and kinestetics, in the learning process. One picture=1,000 words, and one model = 1,000 pictures. I also use these techniques in teaching mathematics.

I was trained to teach children from the age of 1 - 17 for four years in a Teacher-Training School at Bishop Shanahan Teachers' College Imo Nigeria. I tauht English, Mathematics, English Literarture, Civics, Geograpgy, History, Bible Knowledge & Rural Science. I learned methodolgy to teach.
I taught six years (British) system of Education bfre I bachelor's degree & becoming a citizen in the USA. I was an instructor in ISU IL Normal 1994 to 1996. I was an Economics,Business, English Language Instructor/tutor at Heartland Community College Normal Illinois 2000 - 2004
