My teaching style is focused on student achievement. Many parents complain that their child does poorly on tests. This is often a result of inadequate teaching practices which fail to recognize individual learning differences in students. My goal in teaching is to individualize the learning process for each student, so that the student understands and retains knowledge and is able to explain what they learned. This process increases their test scores and confidence. Students often require that educational materials be modified or accommodated to meet their particular needs. My experience in special education has shown that all students can achieve if knowledge is properly presented and goals well defined.

I recently graduated from Rutgers University with a Bachelors in Science. My major was public health and I minored in biology and psychology. Throughout my college career, I have participated in many community service clubs and worked at a tutoring center where I helped college students with their weekly writing assignments. It was my responsibility to help them with their grammar, writing topics, and reading comprehension. I was able to help them grow into stronger and more creative writers.
I enjoy tutoring students and seeing them succeed. When they do well, it makes me feel like I have succeeded too. I believe teaching is very rewarding and it is important to take time and be cooperative with students in order to help them.

I am currently tuoring at an Academic Development Center and Student Support Services as a psychology and math tutor. I love sharing my knowledge with others and at the same time, I learn and gain alot from my students. When students come in with questions, I will first ask them what subject is it for, does the teacher give out any guidelines about the assignment, and what difficulties you have with this assignment. If it is math problem, I'll do serveral problems step-by-step with my students. Then, I'll pick a problem that was similiar to the problem that we just worked with, and ask them to do it. If they still have problems, I'll show the steps again one more time until they get it.
I am majoring in psychology and minoring in math. I have interests and excel in both of these areas. I will be graduating my BA degree in Dec 2010 in Psychology Departmental Honor, and a math minor ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

As a non-traditional student I gave a good deal of thought as to what career to go into. I love working with students and enjoy providing an environment that is customized based on the student's individual learning style. I believe all students have a desire to succeed, but frequently struggling students have lost touch with that part of themselves. I would like to offer students an opportunity to reach their maximum potential. I have personally witnessed students transformed when they found a personal connection with the materials they are studying.
I graduated with honors with my AA from ACCC and maintained a 3.4 at Stockton College. While in school as a non-trad. student I have been a full time sub. teacher at Mainland Regional and Ocean City High Schools subbing for 9 years.I have worked with students of all ability levels from the special needs to gifted students. As an educator, my understanding and approach to learning comes from placing myself in the perspective of the student. Therefore, student's opinion on coursework needs to be heard in order to create effective learning goals. I believe this will increase a student's motivation and connection to the material. Connections, which are endless and create concrete understanding for students. I am very passionate, easy going and understanding of students. Although, I set the highest expectations because I believe the student can achieve them. Each student can succeed and they will.
