I enjoy working one on one with students because it is allows me to give more in depth and detailed instruction to the student based on his or her learning style. I have always been interested and active in the education field. I enjoy working individually with students, more so than in a classroom setting. I received a Master's degree in Creative Writing and a Bachelor's in English for Secondary Education, with minors in French and Creative Writing. Although, I am not a certified teacher, I am currently working towards obtaining my licensure in Language Arts 7-12th grade and have taken several education related classes. I have recently obtained my BA in English and am educated in all of the current trends and graduated in the top ten percent of my class. During my time spent at Defiance College I had the pleasure of working for the Academic resource center as a writing consultant and tutor. There I helped fellow students learn how to write and research effectively. I have also volunteered my time at our local middle school where I helped instruct a fifth grade art class with special needs students.

In 1992 I graduated from Bowling Green State University (BGSU) with a degree in music education, vocal and trumpet emphasis. Since then, I have been employed by Defiance Area Youth for Christ, and it has been my privilege to assist young people to acheieve their fullest potential in every aspect of their lives. During my employment with YFC, I have been allowed to substitute teach in schools throughout Defiance County and have done so over the last ten years. A Little Bit About Me...

I am a very energetic and interactive teacher, moving around the classroom, challenging students with questions, providing many examples and anecdotes to illustrate teaching points. I always try to teach inductively--leading the student to discover the answer on their own, and I encourage them to express their own original thoughts. I use a multisensory approach to teaching, using audio-visual resources and the internet whenever possible. I really enjoy leading students to see things from "out of the box" perspectives, to find relationships between seemingly unrelated things, and to synthesize novel insights by doing so. A Little Bit About Me...

I have taught 4 and 5th grade in the Texas School Systems for 24 years. I worked as a retired teacher in the Adams Wells Special Services Coop for 3 years (2006-2009)as a teacher's aide with special needs students both in the elementary and high school levels. Those children varied from autistic, cerebal palsy, Attention Deficit Disorders with and without Hyperactivity. I really enjoyed working with these students to help them with their reading, math, and overall achievement. I am currently employed as a substitute teacher with the North Adams Community Schools on K-12 Levels. I also worked with the district in a specially funded program for a homework and tutoring afterschool program on 4th and Kindergarten levels.
