Marine Biology is one of my top subjects! We live in one of the greatest places on earth and amazing technology in hand to study Marine Biology. Allow me to take you through my class on Marine Biology using videos and interactive technology through local aquariums and research projects. I have been teaching/tutoring students in life science for over 20 years, but it all started with my BA from UC Berkeley in Integrative Biology. At Berkeley I tutored/taught part-time as a Lab Teacher at Berkeley Community College, a study group leader at UC Berkeley student learning center, and a Kaplan MCAT tutor. I then earned my MA in Zoology (with a thesis in molecular evolution from University of South Florida) and mentored/taught College Freshmen Biology and worked in immunology at the Cancer Research Center. I moved back to the Bay Area and worked at Biotech companies including Genentech, and Amgen. I am patient yet firm. My personal background in mathematics was fairly rigorous, so I always make my students show their work. As the subject material gets tougher, it becomes more critical to be able to check all stages of one's work. One of my math teachers gave me some sage advice: "Math teachers are lazy. We find the quickest and shortest route to a solution." I've taken this tongue-in-cheek wisdom to heart in my own way. While there is only one single solution for any math problem, there are infinitely elegant ways to arrive at that solution. I show my students different ways to solve problems because flexibility is key. Mathematics is a great way to keep one's thinking nimble and that can help throughout one's education.

I have a BS in Business and have worked in Mortgage and Banking for many years. This industry requires excellent written communication skills as well as practical math skills. I have been a substitute teacher for grades K - 12 for the past year in all subjects and have C-Best Certification.
