Special Education is one of my top subjects! I have a mild/moderate special education credential, multiple subject credential since 2000, Masters in special education, autism authorization, and have worked both as a Resource Specialist and an SDC teacher creating, monitoring and updating IEP programs and goals. I work on study skills, work habits, fine motor skills, organization, social skills and cuing as they pertain to academics and every day interactions, as well as interest/career direction testing. I have worked with curriculum such as Touch Math, Step Up to Writing, Explode the Code, Saxin phonics, Silver Burdett and Ginn, Abekka, hough Mifflin, Dolch, and Handwriting Without Tears. I have also raised three kids with ADD who have just finished their first year in college. There is light at the end of the tunnel!
As a special education teacher with both my special education and multiple subject credentials, I believe in multi-modality teaching as well as changing activities frequently to keep kids engaged. I also consider myself a "connection specialist." Connecting interpersonally with students and parents creates trust, self confidence, and a desire to learn.
