I am a teacher of great experience. Having taught in the private and public schools, I have been given opportunities to work with a variety of achievers - from handicapped to gifted. I have tutored in all academic subjects except higher high school and have an amount of expertise in the reading area. I have a B.S. in education from Union College in Barbourville, KY, and a M.A. as a reading specialist from Cumberland College in Williamsburg, KY.

My teaching style can be called old-fashioned: the best results come from patient, focused, disciplined time on task. To learn math one must work a variety of problems, and practice them diligently. My strength as a tutor is my ability to explain the algorithms in a way that students can easily grasp. This includes the vitally important requirement of why the problem is worked the way it is, not simply how.
I taught high-school math for 14 years, everything from Pre-Algebra to Calculus, in both public and private schools. I also have extensive writing experience, including for many newspapers, and am currently teaching Political Science at the Community-College level. Thus, I could tutor math, and/or any subject or assignment that required verbal and writing skills. I tutored UTK athletes in math and philosophy, and proctored Pre-Calculus at UTK as well.

At the University of Tennessee every student is expected to fulfill certain core curriculum requirements in any degree program. As an AP student in high school, I tested out of U.S. History and freshman English/Composition. I tested out of the first year of Spanish via UT's foreign language placement exams as well. With 18 "free" credits under my belt from day one, I was able to pursue my love for writing in the journalism program. I have earned a BS in communications giving me pratical hands-on editing and writing skills, be it creative, technical, or persuasive.
