As long as I could remember academics have come quite easily to me, from elementary school to current classes in college. Prior to this year I've only helped out my sister extensively as she has had problems understanding most teacher's methods. My experience with teaching began in 2004 as a volunteer for William Saroyan Elementary School in Fresno, CA. I have tutored children in reading last summer. It was one of the most gratifying things I have done. I worked with English as second language children ranging from ages 5 to 13. My teaching style is perhaps not as Socratic as I would prefer. I first elucidate the principles being considered, and then use a practical means to illustrate and work with that principle. I like to have the student learn to derive what is being taught for themselves. That way the material will stay with them. Grounding the material being learned in some real-life experience makes knowledge meaningful and useful. That is what I endeavor to achieve.
While pursuing my Master's degree, I taught several sections on Civil Engineering principles. I also held office hours to tutor students in any other classwork where they were in need of assistance. Subjects ranges from physics to structural mechanics to hydrology to fluid mechanics.
