Literacy specialist K-12 offering services beginning June

Explicit instruction with modeling guided practice and release in the area of teaching reading skills is of value to me.
I have over 15 years of full time teaching experience in a combination of grades, K, 2, 3, and 4. I moved from teaching within a classroom to accepting a reading specialist position in a high poverty district. I taught reading interventions for three years before being asked to step in to an instructional coach roll for teachers. This is my current full-time position and I provide feedback and support to elementary teachers in the area of practice, data analysis, Common core methodology, rigor and appropriate curriculum development as well as selection and delivery of instruction.

My comments on tutoring Elementary Phonics : I just finished my first year at CWI and am currently taking English 102 - took predominately English, editing, computer, marketing, and math classes. I also home schooled my children for ten years, was a teacher's assistant for six years in elementary schools, and taught first grade in a small private school last year.

While in college I have gained experince in and out of the classroom. I have worked with children for a total of eight years. I have tutored students in math, reading, social studies, and language arts. I have worked with children in grades k through 8th grade. I have earned a bachelors degree, B.S in Multidiscplinary Studies and two minors in ESOL and Elementary Education. When teaching mathematics, I believe that over half of my job is social skills. Calming my students down, easing their frustration, and making them feel comfortable is over half the battle. It isn't that mathematics is too hard for most people, it is just too frustrating for most people. So my job is to set my client at ease and to create a learning environment. I have been involved in offering educational services since I was in high school, when I tutored younger students in math, Spanish, research writing, and general elementary subjects. None of my family had gone to college, so it was predicted I would not either. I had a hunger to learn, so I systematically worked full-time and studied part-time, earning eight major degrees in cities where they alowed residency rquirements to be met in such a way. I was young and energetic, so it was a lot of work, but a joy. It took about 15 years to finally earn my doctorate. Working with such a diverse population of students ranging from grades 3-12, I have learned that each child processes information in different ways. Assisting them in overcoming their learning disability has taught me to understand and identify their struggles and how they can work through them.
