Spanish is one of my top subjects! I am fluent in Spanish and feel that I would be a wonderful teacher for anyone looking to learn the language. I studied Spanish for over a decade, and also lived in Salamanca, Spain for a year. It was this year where I mastered the language and grew to learn about its rich culture.

I think it is important to touch on many different aspects of a language when learning it. Listening and speaking in order to put into practice the grammar and vocabulary one has learned is key. It would be best to follow the structure of a book so that the student has something to reflect back on the keep them on track, however if a student doesn't want to use a book, note taking will be sufficient. Also watching movies or tv shows in the language that one is studying will help to improve listening comprehension.
Ever since 2005 I have been focused on learning new languages and traveling. It all began in 2005 when I left as a Rotary Exchange Student to live with a host family in Italy. I did not speak a word of Italian but by the time I came home a year later I was fluent. Then I decided to get my Bachelors degree in Italy in Language Mediation and Cultures, I majored in Spanish a ... read more

Spanish is one of my top subjects! BA in Spanish, Allegheny College, 1983. MS in Bilingual Education SUNY at Brockport, 1989. Junior year at the University of Madrid, Spain. I tutored and taught Spanish to students of a variety of ages, needs, and backgrounds. I have had work experience in teaching Spanish as a Home/Hospital Tutor for BOCERS #1 and the Rochester City School District, the Incercerated Youth program at the Monroe CountyJail and Correctional Facility for the Rochester City School District, (Spanish and GED in Spanish and English), as a private tutor, as a Bilingual caseworker and as a translator.

I teach according to the style that best works for the child, and I take the first couple of tutoring sessions to figure out a child's strengths, weaknesses, interests, and most effective learning style. Regardless of style, however, I believe that a multisensory approach to teaching is best for a child, as it allows teachers to tap into areas of strength of which the student may not be aware. I feel that it is essential to develop a strong rapport with a student in order for positive learning to take place. I also make sure that when I teach a specific subject that I have all the knowledge and tools that are necessary to develop a child's maximum learning potential, and if I feel I need more tools and knowledge, I delve into additional resources. I work as a team player with the student, parent, and any other person who the parent wishes to involve in order to take into account the chi ... read more

I am interested in tutoring because I love teaching regardless of the subject matter. I’ve been lucky enough to be given the opportunity to try several different content areas such as Special Education 7th grade Science in a Push-In model, ESOL, Home and Careers, Career and Financial Management as well as substitute teaching in many areas K-12, in addition to teaching technology in multiple districts. My background as a manufacturing engineer gives me a vantage point of what is required in the real world for success and survival in the working world. Even though teaching is my second career, it is truly what I love to do. Working one to one with students to help them find success in school, while enjoying learning, is my personal goal.
Once in a classroom I realized that I was meant to teach. I love working with students who are challenging and those who challenge me. I believe tha ... read more

More About This Tutor...

I have a passion for teaching and the everyday rewards. Because I have worked in bilingual, private schools in a foreign country I have successfully learned to handle diversity. I have learned to appreciate the individuallity of each student and his or her needs in processing, learning and how they interpret the world. I use Bloom's Toxonomy and Gardner's Multiple Intelligence to build my lessons in a differentiated form to reach each student on his or her level. It is important for me to know each of my students so that I might be able to help them reach their learning goals and motivate them to take more responsibility for their own learning. In this way their progress is their own and that makes it more meaningful for them.
In my 28 years experience in the field of education I have taught all grades from pre-kinder through university in bilingual private schools in Mexico Ci ... read more

I have spent most of my working years with with children and have found it to be the most enjoyable and rewarding experience there is!! I have learned that patience, understanding, and willingness are not only essential to a learning environment, but that without those qualities present the learning process will be stifled. In my experiences, it has been crucial that the student or child felt comfortable, important, listened to and responded to without judgment. I am passionate about teaching and I care about those I work with. I realize the importance of a positive role model or educator and understand the seriousness of a teaching or tutoring position. One educator can affect a students self-esteem and learning experience and it is my goal to create an environment where each student feels important, comfortable making mistakes, and confident and capable of learning and progression.

A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style.... depends on the day, depends on the students, depends on the topic. One minute I can be dancing around the room and the next we're having a more serious discussion. My expectations are very high and I always push my students to do "just a bit better" than they think they can at that moment. At the end of the day, a lot of "just a bit better"'s add up to a whole lot! I wholeheartedly believe that each student has a potential that is limited only to their current experience--giving them new opportunities and showing them not only what they can do but what the world has to offer them... this can change a kid's life!
I have been teaching for 21 years now (wow, that's gone by fast!) and I love every second of what I do. I have also been a tutor in the district for the past 9 years, tutoring every subject possible--math, English, Social Studies, etc. I enjoy t ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

During my past three years at St. John Fisher College I have been actively engaged in the chemistry department. I have been exposed to various teaching types, one being active learning within a group. This has allowed me to develop teaching skills by explaining my ideas on the subject to my group, while learning the material at the same time. Also, for the past two years I have been an individual tutor for students taking introduction to chemistry. During the tutoring sessions I would help with homework or further explain the material covered in class.
I believe that different teaching styles help different students. A method of both lecture and active learning can be effective for the widest range of students. This allows the students to get a brief introduction to the day’s material before they work in groups on questions about the material. I feel that student’s can learn ... read more
