I'm very laid back and just enjoy being around children. Every child is different and has different interests and difficulties. One box does not fit all, and it's a matter of figuring out how to relate to the child at hand and make the subject matter appealing to them that I enjoy the most. I spent 4 years in college teaching preschool, as well as 2 years as a high-needs reading tutor for the psych dept at my university. My degree is in journalism/English Lit and my GPA in Lit was a 3.7. I have three children of my own, and they are all avid readers, with my oldest reading 150+ books per school year. I'm well-aware of the current and classical children's literature out there, and taught both of my older children to read - at 5 and 3, respectively.

I love teaching and I like to teach using examples. I like to present the material in a variety of ways with the knowledge that some students are visual learners and some benefit more from verbal examples. I would provide everyday examples and relate the problems to everyday situations. I will also provide an interactive and engaging teaching style because I believe that if the student can explain the problem to me in their own words I can tell if they are understanding the material and not just learning to replicate a solution. I am a patient, understanding, and considerate person. I love the sight of a child learning something after a person takes the time to show the steps. At the moment, I am unemployed throughout the week so i can meet with a child/children whenever they need me. I also can help a child through their personal problems because it is not always that a child does not understand the information; sometimes they have other things affecting their lives. I want to be able to make a difference in a child life forever. I have earned a BS in Physical Education. My major was Athletic Training, which has prepared me to gain extensive knowledge in Biology and Anatomy & Phys. I am very patient with a child when it comes to learning. Some children learn differently than other children. Sometimes I would take each problem one step at a time. If needed, I would spend more time with a child that needs more help with a problem. As a Paine College student, I do some substitute teaching to have some experience with teaching students a variety of mathematics and other subjects.
