A Little Bit About Me...

I believe that no two students learn alike and the most important thing is to make sure students are having fun with learning. If learning is looked at as boring or hard students will try to avoid it, when learning is fun students learn without realising the work involved. I am willing to try a new tactic with every new task and am always learning myself. As someone new to the education field I am always researching new ideas in the education field.
The 2009-2010 school year will be my third year as a substitute teacher. I earned three degrees in five years, all in quantitative disciplines. The range of material covered by those degrees includes mathematics and statistics, economics, and some computer programming. Beyond my education background, I have five years of experience tutoring. In high school, I tutored children in reading and writing and other high school students in mathematics and Latin. In college, I have one additional year of experience tutoring introductory calculus.
I believe the key to learning is to break complex concepts down into manageable sizes. The goal of tutoring is to relate new or difficult material to simple ideas that are already familiar to the student. Above all else, it is important to communicate with the student to understand where the breakdown in understanding is and then develop an approach that aids in comprehension.
