My teaching style is very structured and organized. I teach with the style that every child is unique and learns at their own style and pace. I do not believe in rushing learning nor that every skill, style, environment or learning setting works for every student. My teaching style also mirrors the idea that children learn through hands on, interactive, tactile, and motivating experiences, resources and materials. Most of all, my style of teaching is based upon tapping into each child's own interest or interests that academics can be related and taught through.

English Language Arts Teacher

I believe that real learning takes place when students are actively engaged in the material. Finding the right materials to teach with will often inspire intrinsic motivation.
I have currently spent over 350 hours in a variety of school settings. From private school to public, first grade to twelfth, I have seen it all. The majority of my experience has taken place in a suburban middle school, however I have also spent a reasonable ammount of time working with inner city high school students. I double majored in college to recieve a bachelors degree in literature and writing, and spent a full year interning at a student run newspaper as a journalist and copy editor. I have tutored middle school students with a variety of learning disabilities, as well as SAT prep for high school students. I am currently registered for a series of NYS tests to earn my certification to teach.

Before having children I worked as an teacher's aide at the local pre-school, working with 3-5 year-olds. After that I became a teacher's aid for the local middle school, working with children that were not allowed to go to regular classes due to their behavior. My main job was to show them how to write essays, reports, papers, etc. I also worked with their families as well and I loved it.
Working with children of all ages has taught me just how important education is. Reading and writing is especially important and they will need it in their everyday life. Every child deserves a good education and nothing would make me happier than to provide that to them. I am a caring person, always putting myself last. I am hardworking and patient. When working with others, children or co-workers, I put my focus on them especially when they need me. I always do my best and will not stop or give ... read more

More About This Tutor...

I am a firm believer that all children can learn if given every option to be successful. In order to achieve success, students should be surrounded with tools to help them learn and a positive learning environment is key. Teachers should not expect all children to learn at the same pace nor same learning style. I never give up on my students. Students need teachers who do not accept failure and teach perseverance.
I have devoted my life as a mother of three and as an educator. I have earned a BA in English and a Master's Degree in Special Education. In addition, I have dual certification in New York State. As a graduate of top-tier research university the University of Rochester, with a BA in English and Religion, I have extensive experience in writing and research. My writing and editing skills have been demonstrated in my time as a copy editor and contributing writer to my college newspaper, the Campus Times. During my junior year of high school, I taught a 1st grade church school class at my local parish, from which I gained valuable experience in education. In addition, my time as an Assistant Costume Designer for a student-run theatre group at the University of Rochester allowed me the opportunity to teach technical skills to new members.

I hold a BS in Communication with concentration on English. I have extensive experience with writing and editing as I have worked for various publications. During the past years I have tutored a number of children helping them to read. In addition I have spent countless hours teaching computers to various ages from 10-60 years of age. I have helped in teaching Microsoft Office applications as well as the internet. Every student I have taught has come home with passing grades, and at least one level higher than they were bringing home on their own.
