A Little Bit About Me...

To be clear up front I am not a teacher. However, I have acquired valuable skills working as a highschool paraprofessional for almost eight years. I spent the majority of my days in math classes and science classes helping students and learning the subject right along with them. I also spent an hour or two every day in study hall to help students with homework (math, science, english, social studies) Aside from the practical knowledge I gained in each classroom I was able to find new and different ways over the years to help individual students with very individual needs.
Part of the advantage I have as a math tutor in particular is the fact that I failed math miserably in highschool myself. I love teaching, and get along great with student, parents, and other teachers. I am constantly searching for ways to make learning easier and a better fit for the student. That is why I feel it is important to be knowledgable on computer technology and having the ability to know where to find what is needed. I am in contact with other teachers of various subjects as well in order to gain their suggestions and input to problem areas. Teaching is a wonderful experience! My teaching style is laid-back, I'd say. I like having conversations in order to determine how someone learns. I think people learn best when discussing the material and really think it out before they start creating something. Guiding a student down the path of their own learning style is important because they will need those skills in the future when they go off to college or start a career on their own. I will provide students with the tools they need to succeed today and in the future!
I attended the University of North Dakota for 4 years and in that time received a BA in Anthropology which has provided me the experience and knowledge of helping people in holistic ways.
