My comments on tutoring Sociology : I have taught at the collegiate level in Sociology.

I am a Social Studies teacher in the state of Pennsylvania. I graduated from an NCATE accredited university that has a rigorous education program. In that program, I was required to teach elementary students, middle school students, high school students, college students, and adult classes. I have been teaching for three years and tutoring for five years. I have taught multiple types of learners in multiple subjects with a significant amount of success.
I am a great speaker, and I can easily relate to my students. I push my students thoroughly to reach their objectives, because I do not believe there is anyone who cannot learn a subject. I have never had a student fail on my watch, and I do not intend to ever have that happen if a student is trying. If you have the will to learn, I will see to it that you increase your grade.

I am a current student with Duquesne University working on a dual masters degree in Corporate Communications and Multimedia Technology. I am a 2007 graduate of Capital University and hold a bachelors degree in Mathematics with a minor in communications. I completed 3 years of coursework in Chemical Engineering before deciding to switch to Mathematics and am therefore well versed in both the maths and sciences. I tutored at the college level while a student and volunteered as a middle school and high school mathematics tutor with North Hills Youth Ministry for aproximately 2 years.
Math teachers are notorious for being vague or teaching solely from text. I believe understanding mathematics does not necessarily make you fit to teach it. I have had great success adapting to a student's language and using analogies to make math come to life. It's a fact that no human likes an act ... read more

I am, by nature, an "explainer" who can easily put himself in the shoes of the student. With patience, and a knack for common communication, I have been able to cogently and clearly, I feel, get across abstruse and complex concepts, issues and ideas to those patient enough to follow the process. I have been an active member of my local chapter of Cafe Scientifique (Pittsburgh), and this has allowed me, over several years, to communicate with the local scientific community on a wide variety of topics. I feel that I am one of their lead expositors of Scientific topics, and this skill is a natural path towards tutoring.
Have been teaching and tutoring all my life! I have been told by many people that this is a natural talent I possess. I am somewhat of a generalist in the sciences and keep pretty much up to date in the field. I feel that my training in Psychology is an added skill set ... read more

I believe that children learn best from hands on experiences. It is up to me, the teacher to create these experiences, guide the child, and provide lots of postive reinforcement. There are many ways to learn and it is up to the teacher to help the student find which ways they learn best. There is also many different areas of intelligence and every person has a strength in one or more of these areas. Expectations should always be made clear, as well as an opportunity for routine, but also allowing room for flexibility. The child always comes first.

This particular position interests me because I struggled with math through middle school and understand the frustration it can create for a student. Mathematics is now my strongest subject and I chose the profession of accounting to utilize those strengths. During my time at college, I helped other students with their studies in math and business, specifically statistics and quantitative analysis. Although this teaching experience was with college level students, I have held a summer job working with 8-12 year olds for the past four years. When I finish my Master’s Degree, I may consider teaching at an institution such as CCAC because I enjoy helping others with their education.
As a result of my post-high school studies in mathematics and business, I feel I'm suited to tutor people in those subjects. Statistics, quantitative methods, and analytical methods are my strongest s ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I graduated with an AB in Chemistry, from a top college in the country, which has helped me gain a better understanding of mathematics and the physical sciences. I have learned from writing countless lab reports and term papers, in many different areas of study, the importance of grammar and research before one begins a project. I have mentored children throughout community organizations, helping them with everything from homework to life’s problems.
My teaching style would focus on making sure that all children understand the basics of what they are doing before they can proceed to a more difficult level of study. A strong foundation is the best way to achieve excellence whether studying basic Algebra or Advanced Inorganic Chemistry. I believe in teaching through all different means from lectures, to hands on projects, to outings that are focused on the field being studied. ... read more

I believe that all children learn differently and at different levels and as a teacher, you need to recongize that and adapt your lessons to your students so they can achieve. For social studies, most student think that class is all about taking notes and reading from the book but I put a twist on all of my lessons. I do a lot of group projects, I have the students do presentations for each other on the material and also reanacts of big events to help the students understand what really happened with that specific event and how it impacted history.
As a recent graduate from Westminster College, I have earned a BA in History and my PA teaching certificate for 7-12 in Social Studies. I have had experience in teaching grades 9-12 and tutoring students in grade 10 in subjects other than social studies such as science, math, and spanish. I have also volunteered to teach in my church ... read more

In addition to my desire to practice law, I have a passion for the education of children. I believe children learn in many different ways and I am not committed to just one teaching style. As someone who developed later in life in terms of academic achievement, I know the importance of patience and passion in the education of children. I believe it is important to communicate without discouraging children. Learning is a process and cannot be rushed or forced upon anyone. I strive to make a difference in the lives of children and I believe I can achieve such a goal by teaching.

I had been a teacher for 12 years engaging in a multitude of learning styles and methodology. I spent 6 years serving as principal at all levels. I was Director of Education for two years and then served as Superintendent of Schools for two districts for a total of 15 years. During that time I never lost connection with teaching, mentoring students from all levels of education and continued to teach in the classroom at least once a week. I was an adjunct professor for two years at Waynesburg University in Pennsylvania. I retired in 2009 to travel and photograph the country, while living in and RV. I always remember having a passion for education, for example my favorite game as a child was school where I got to be the teacher. Thus, I thought I had found my niche once I became a certified schoolteacher and secured my first teaching assignment. I was enamored with my students and the learning process. However, my enthusiasm quickly dissipated when the reality of “schooling” was revealed. I no longer felt joy, but heartache at the systemic annihilation of inner-city children. However, one thing inspired me to keep coming to teach, day after day, despite the school’s limited supplies, lack of safety, and irreverence for aesthetics; it was the will and determination of my students. They came to school day after day, excited to just learn and receive reassurance that education is liberating and knowledge is power. It was with these students in mind, along with my own children an ... read more
