I assist the Reading Center Directors in assessing area public school K-12 students at-risk in reading and writing. The information is used to identify areas of literacy strength, as well as areas of need. I design and implement differentiated one-on-one instruction based on individual student needs, and conduct formative assessments regularly to determine student progress to share this information with the parents and schools.
I have earned two bachelors degrees, BS in Accounting and BA in Early Childhood Education with an endorsement in Reading. I have also earned a Masters in Business Adminstration. I have always enjoyed playing the piano. And I took extreme satisfaction from teaching piano. I would sit beside them while they played the pieces I had assigned to them to practice since the previous lesson. If they had problems or questions about something, I was there to help. We'd talk and laugh, and I hoped they learned through it all. Above all, I never wanted to yell at them or berate them, because I knew they'd never learn if they felt pressured or thought I was there only to critize them. While I don't think I ever had any junior Beethovens, I'd like to think there are several people out there now who still enjoy sitting down at a piano every now and then to play something.

I have worked as a music teacher for 10 years, and I spent one year working as a Title I paraprofessional. As a music teacher, my focus is on music literacy and appreciation. I strongly believe that every child has the right to a quality music education. As a Title I para, I worked with individual and small groups of K-6 students in the areas of reading, writing, and math.
A wonderful characteristic of music is that learning and experiencing music addresses all three main learning styles--visual, aural, and kinesthetic.
