"Teaching" was the way I supported myself through college. I was a lab instructor, university experience teacher, cultural anthropology tutor, nutrition educator, and even a gymnastic instructor. I was thankful to find the College of St. Mary's Masters of Arts in Teaching. It is a solid program that has given me the opportunity to have a formal education in teaching. In my program I have over 100 practicum hours in a middle school science classroom, I tutored AP chemistry, and I have had exposure to reading comprehension strategies in many of my classes. From very early on I have been drawn toward teaching. As a student I was a tutor for many of the classes I took. I tutored Chemistry I, Beginner and Intermediate Algebra as well as a number of Accounting classes. When I graduated I immediately began looking for positions that would enable me to teach. I was very lucky to be offered a position as an Adjunct Professor at Friends University in Wichita, Kansas. I have held that position since January, 2010 and I love it!

I enjoy teaching business areas and math -- the subjects were fascinating to learn and are still a joy to explore with students. My favorite moments are "light bulb moments;" it can be frustrating to work on the same thing for a long time, but when a student looks up and finally "gets it," it doesn't matter how long it took.
