My comments on tutoring Life Science : 2 bachelor of science degrees and a land surveyor's license

my teaching style depends upon how that person learns. so many times you have young people that have very bright minds, but maybe they are a "visual" learners. in other words, they have to see it a certain way. i had teachers that i really loved and did well, but there were others that taught the same subject and i couldn't get anything out of the class.

I have a strong constructivist teaching style: I do my best to connect a student's prior knowledge and experiences to new knowledge in order to build on his or her experience, thereby creating a foundation for intrinsic learning. My reading lessons are technically rigorous, but are supplemented with frequent discussion to check for understanding. I abide by the principle "first accuracy, then speed." In all subjects, I strive for student mastery and maximum comprehension.
While enrolled in the teacher certification program with Hendrix College, I mentored/tutored an eighth grader in various subjects. I enjoyed the one-on-one experience thoroughly and quickly returned to tutoring at Arkansas School for the Blind. During my three years of employment with ASB, I improved ACTAAP reading scores of two students with reading/learning impairments after one year of tutoring sessions f ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

As a 22 year veteran teacher and now a Children's Director of Ministry, I have worked in most all capacities with children and feel that God gave me this gift. I feel that all children learn differently and at their own pace and therefore learning should be adjusted to fit their needs. I feel that even the most "boring" subjects can be made fun and I have several techniques that I use to accomplish this task! Most subjects are like puzzles. Each piece fits with another piece and then the whole picture becomes clear. I love to see the look on little faces when "the lightbulb comes on" and they finally get the concept! I have tutored after school for 10 years in English, math skills, study habits, and even art!
My teaching style is a simple one: I use kindness with firmness and always attach a fun and tactile activity to make the learning memorable. My own learning style is more vis ... read more

I believe we all learn in different ways, and I am always open minded in finding the best way for that student I am working with at that time. I believe everyone can achieve the highest of goals if we all strive for that success and find out a way to get there. However, most of all I hope I can leave a feeling of respect for the studies and for the people around us.
I have earned a BS in Chemistry and a minor in Math. I am currently working as a chemist, so I have kept up with all the new studies that are taking place right now. I have tutored all through High School, College and thereafter. I have a real passion for learning math, all sciences, and history. I hope I can pass this respect for these studies on to everyone I teach.

My first priorty to assist students in learning is developing a positive relationship with them, and then try to identify their strengths and weaknesses. From that point I can then begin to provide assistance and correction. One of the secrets or truths to student achievement is building their confidence and establishing high self-esteem traits toward achievement in that particular subject area.
I began my educational goals as a medical student, but later was advised that I should branch off into teaching and instructional applications by undergraduate and graduate professors.I'm so glad I took their advice because I really enjoy teaching and observing growth and development in my students. A Little Bit About Me...

I love to teach children and find it both a challenge as well as an inspiration. When teaching I find it necessary to determine the learning styles of each student as well as areas of interest. Once these have been determined it is much easier to determine the areas of academic needs and teach according to how they best learn. Learning should not be seen as a chore but rather as an opportunity to succeed in life. Whenever possible I include technology into the curriculum to enhance teaching. If teaching a large class it may be necessary to break into small groups to focus on the needs of certain students while providing enrichment activities for others. Positive reinforcement is the key to a student becoming more confident.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have passion about teaching. I like to share my knowledge with other people and I believe it could be achieved by efficient communication.I am patient and humerous at times. When I teach I try to relate questions in the book to real world problems by giving numerous examples. I stronlgy believe that learning can be made easier if we teach students in a way that they enjoy it and apply to the real world situtations. I do not hesitate to give funny examples and logics so as to make them remember for a long time.
I received my BS in Environmental science in 2007 and minored in chemistry.Environmental science- biology track requires to have numerous biology courses. I have tutored most subjects in both in middle school and high school. My most recent experience was tutoring psychology and spanish at the college level. I do not hold a teaching certificate, but I do love to teach.
I always adapt my teaching style to fit the student. I am willing to do just about anything to help a student learn a subject, so long as that student is as dedicated to learning it as I am to teaching it. It takes two people working together in order to have a sucessful tutoring session.
