At Adult Basic and Literature Education, I serve as a math and grammar tutor in the GED and ESOL programs. Also, I assist the students on how to obtain basic computer techniques so that they can operate the computer. I am able to communicate with Spanish-speaking students and read French. As for my technical, web designing, and software knowledge, I have a background in computer troubleshooting, Adobe Photoshop, HMTL, Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, etcetera. For five years, I was a substitute teacher for grades K-5 in English as a Second Language, Special Education and Art classes. I used my communication skills to converse with and to translate Spanish/English language. English ESOL is one of my top subjects! I have 2 years of real-world ESOL teaching experience in Japan, where I not only taught at public schools, but gave private lessons to adult students.

I have a very strong passion for education and feel it is of utmost importance in this world. It definitely is important to combine styles. I use direct instruction, as well as guided instruction, and groupwork. I hold two bachelor degrees, a BA in French Language and Literature and a BS in Microbiology. I also have a certificate in African Studies and a minor in Chemistry. Therefore, I have a very well-rounded background in both the sciences and the liberal arts. I am also certified to teach English as a foreign language. I have worked with many non-native English speakers to improve or perfect various aspects of the English languages, including speaking, reading, writing, and listening comprehension.
I work with each student in the way that is best for their particular learning styles. I prefer a laid-back approach to learning, allowing students to understand at their own pace and make connection on their own. This does not mean, however, that I do not have high expectations for my students.
