Everyone learns differently. I think by involving as many of your senses you are able to learn and retain information better. Teaching information and giving examples that are relavent to the student's life and experiences help teach the student that learning is important.The advances in technology and utilizing these resources are very important. Computer animation and pictures are amazing tools for any student, especially students that learn visually. The education system is going in the right direction by thinking outside the box. They are using every resource available to enpower students.

A Little Bit About Me...

I am an upcoming May 2006 graduate from Allegheny College, majoring in English. Given my background at a small, liberal arts college and being a former biochemistry major, I have a great understanding of language arts, math and science. I have completed a 60 page research project as well completed numerous written projects throughout my college career, that have undoubtedly strengthened my writing skills. In high school, as well as in college, I have tutored students anywhere from the middle school level to the high school level in all subjects. I have worked with students from youth development centers to rural students. In addition to tutoring, I worked this past summer as an intern for SummerBridge Pittsburgh where I taught reading and writing to a group of accelerated eighth graders. More About This Tutor...

I work with each student in the way that is best for their particular learning styles. I prefer a laid-back approach to learning, allowing students to understand at their own pace and make connection on their own. This does not mean, however, that I do not have high expectations for my students.
I hold two bachelor degrees, a BA in French Language and Literature and a BS in Microbiology. I also have a certificate in African Studies and a minor in Chemistry. Therefore, I have a very well-rounded background in both the sciences and the liberal arts. I am also certified to teach English as a foreign language. I have worked with many non-native English speakers to improve or perfect various aspects of the English languages, including speaking, reading, writing, and listening comprehension.
