Sign Language is one of my top subjects! I recently graduated with high honors from Rochester Institute of Technology's American Sign Language Interpreting program at the National Technical Institute for the Deaf. I completed my four year degree with a 3.94 GPA. During my time at NTID, I learned ASL by taking a variety of rigorous classes, interacting with my Deaf peers, and attending frequent tutoring sessions. In addition to my studies of American Sign Language, I also took many classes in ASL regarding Deaf Culture. All of my Sign Language professors were Deaf, as were my Deaf Culture professors.

I have always had a passion for learning. Part of my passion includes helping others learn, grow, and succeed. As an undergraduate student, I volunteered as a Peer Mentor in order to help new students become accustomed to their classes. I also worked as a Peer Mentor for students who were struggling with their grades. Peer Mentors are carefully selected by Rochester Institute of Technology through a detailed application process. I volunteered as an English tutor, as well as a proofreader of essays, research papers, and projects. I have had the opportunity to work at a daycare for several years with children ranging from 6 weeks of age to 12 years. I have loved being able to help these children grow, learn, and succeed in their education. As a tutor, my specialties are American Sign Language and English. My undergraduate studies were in American Sign Language-English interpreting ... read more

I graduated Magna Cum Laude in 2007 from SUNY Brockport with an undergraduate degree in Elementary Education, English and Special Education. I have worked as a substitute teacher in all grade levels and in all subject areas. I have been accepted into a high degree Masters program but feel I need to have a job to justify the repayment(s) of additional student loans that would be needed to finish my MA. I have recently been a four county advocate for people with special needs as the Disabilities Program Navigator. I would still hold this position if funding had not run out. I have the abilities to work with any level of education.

I also developed a positive behavior management system that teaches students responsibility and accountability. My system has reinforced my philosophy of teaching; students learn and work better when a positive environment surrounds them.
Through my teaching experience, I have learned the importance of the relationship between the community and maintaining a positive classroom environment. My goal in life is to be a successful teacher to many students. I have already began this exciting journey by volunteering in classrooms starting at the age of fourteen; now I am teaching. My teaching philosophy includes all students; all students can learn. It is the teacher's job to find out what teaching strategy will work best with each student. All students can strive, however, some students may learn material in a different method. Students need to have experiences throughout their learning career, it is my job as a teacher to provide this for students. Part of my philosophy as a teacher, is that students need to respect the teacher, yet teachers also need to respect their students so that a positive, enriching learning environment can occur. I have spent my life working towards degrees that would help me to give my life meaning. I have earned a B.S. and M.S. in Speech-Language Pathology, as well as, a bilingual extension in Spanish. Since I also love healing through nutrition and energy work, I've earned degrees in Health Counseling and Reconnective Healing. As I continue to learn myself, I hope to inspire people to do the same!
I have been working with children ever since I can remember. I love to engage in creative activities with children while helping them utilize their strengths to overcome their limitations. I've learned that by figuring out what motivates a child, s/he can learn anything! I also know that if a child is having fun, it means that s/he is learning something. My teaching style is fun, unique, focused, hands-on and engaging.
