My comments on tutoring Poetry : I have taught students about poetry, plays and short stories for 20 years. I am patient and understanding. I am a poet myself!

In my experience, the majority of students are highly motivated. This is, for me, the key to success. Poetry is one of my top subjects! My poetry has been published in writing journals and quarterlies. I also have extensive experience working with college level students on their poetry.

I began teaching at eighteen. I’d just graduated high school and wasn’t ready for college, so I worked as a personal trainer at a gym within jogging distance of my house. I worked with clients one-on-one helping structure their workouts to their needs, and while I may be stretching it to equate teaching with providing pointers on proper form or advising on ways to augment a stagnant routine, but I think that gap year spent in the gym was when my proclivity for teaching first became incipient. My comments on tutoring Poetry : I am an accomplished poet, proficient in many forms. (Sonnet, sestina, etc.)

I spent several years in Omaha teaching creative writing at the High School and College level, giving classes at Creighton University, the University of Nebraska at Omaha, and Metro Tech. The program was called Writing Floes. The basic idea is that our ideas are frozen in the oceans of our unconscious minds. Music melts the ice. The goal is to get both hemispheres of the brain in the room at the same time.
