It's all about you, the students. We all learn differently, so I like to tailor my style to the person I'm teaching. Let me know what you want to learn, and I'll work with you to get the best result. The only requirement I have is that I want you to care. If you come to me, you have to work. I'm not a ogre, but I won't let you come to me and not try to learn.
I've been an informal tutor for as long as I can remember. I've tutored my peers and my juniors in English grammar, spelling, vocabulary, writing, composition, essay, formal reports, reading comprehension, and anything else involved in English. I also have formally studied Japanese and tutored in that. Formally, I have worked as an ESL teacher for The Salvation Army. I've been both a classroom teacher and a one-on-one teacher with my students.

As a tutor, I find that it is important to present the material to the students in a way that they can relate to. My job as an educator is to teach them how to learn it and make them want to learn it. I personally do not believe that negative reinforcement is beneficial. Positive responses to students are extremely valuable, even if they may occasionally give the wrong answer. This will give them the motivation to do well. My philosophy is that teaching is part knowledge, part communication, and part intuition. My intuition is necessary to understand where a student is getting stuck. My comments on tutoring Communications : I have a distinct communication style that seems to work for indiviiduals and organizations. My negotiating style is one of mutual respect and regard for all parties!

I usually take the Socratic method of teaching. I always feel that people enjoy this style and seem to retain more information and answers to their questions.

While earning my MA in English, I spent two years tutoring students in English and training/mentoring other tutors. For the last two years, I have been designing and delivering trianing curriculum. I have helped students from my church for the past eight years in math science and english. I have also worked with my sisters first grade students in math. I enjoy working with youth. It is extremely rewarding to watch a child when that " i get moment" happens and their face lights up with pride, happiness and a sense of accomplishment.
