After finishing my 1st year in college, I started tutoring both online and offline. I have been working as an ESL Teacher for Chinese at different ages. I have over 20 years experience teaching in Japan.

I like to make the classes a lot of fun, with a lot of laughter, because I realised when I was still in high school that the fun classes stayed in my mind and I learned more in them. I also tend to befriend my students, against the conventional wisdom that there should be a wall between. If they are relaxed and can trust me, they will also learn better.
I have lived in Japan now for 27 years. I am planning to return to the U.S. in April. I have and am currently teaching in 23 locations with upwards of 34 classes/lessons per week. My students range in age from two to 64 years. I currently teach English conversation part-time at the International Resort College, where I have classes for future cabin attendants and airport ground staff. A Little Bit About Me...

My background includes teaching at the elementary level and at the adult education level, especially literacy. I spent 10 years directing an adult literacy program where I trained volunteers to be tutors and tutored myself. During that time I took an intensive training course on working with people with learning disabilities. I have worked with ESOL students, as well.
I believe that each child/adult has a learning style unique to them. Finding what works and what makes learning fun, to me, are critical to success, especially to struggling learners. Positive reinforcement and encouragement are critical, as well.
