A Little Bit About Me...

I earned my A.A. in Theatre Arts at College of Central Florida in Ocala, Florida. I then moved to Lakeland and earned my B.A. in Theatre Performance at Florida Southern College in Lakeland, Florida. Last summer I was an assistant teacher for the summer camp at the Civic Theatre in Ocala, Florida.
I teach the basic concepts of acting through Stanislavski and Chekhov. I focus on character development as well as scene analysis. When analyzing a play or story, I focus on the basic concepts such as inciting incidents, major dramatic question, climax, the point of attack, resolution, the theme, and characters. I work with the student so he/she can find these elements and talk about them and expound on them. I work as fast or as slow as the student needs.

I am patient and creative when it comes to teaching and visually showing my students different ways to apply what they learn.
I have been tutoring for many years both privately and for Title I schools. I have tutored k-12, as well as college students in most subjects. I love the arts, writing, and science. I have a passion for getting students interested in learning, getting creative, and learning art as early as possible. The same method applies to math and science, where I try to get students to see their subjects in different ways and apply the learning to what they love most or at least can relate to better.

More About This Tutor...

I believe that children need to find a reason to have a goal of being educated. Coming from a small town and having such a global perspective, I love helping children see their place in this vast world and that they are an important global citizen. I try to show them through energetic discovery, that all this "boring stuff" leads to much more interesting and and fun stuff. Children need to know that they are important assets to us all and that they are more than capable of over acheiving whatever they set out to do.
Studying French and Russian Studies at Stetson allowed me gain more than a grasp on those two languages, but insight to the cultures, an appreciation for and ability to interpret literature and poetry, a deeper understanding of history, geography, and politics as well as a desire to share all of this with others.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have experience working with a variety of children, aged preschool through middle school. Through this experience I have learned that it is not effective to teach using the "one size fits all" approach. Every child is different and it is necessary to remember this when planning and teaching lessons. I am a huge believer that most children learn by doing and aim to incorporate practical and tangible material whenever possible. I also strive to make learning fun for each student and do my best to bring the student's interests into the learning scope so each lesson is personalized to meet their needs.
I earned my degree at the University of Maine, where I completed all prerequisite methods courses, a 100 hour internship at a local elementary school, student teaching in both 1st and 3rd grade classrooms and compiled an extensive portfolio encompassing my teaching experiences and many ... read more

In my college curriculum and internships, I experienced and observed a great deal about people and various styles of processing information. That is, every person has a rather unique way of learning. I would think the most important point to tap into, when tutoring someone, would be to discover how he/she best learns and on what levels. My strongest subject is English and grammatical skills. I have a high degree of creativity and I am flexible and patient. The key focus in my curriculum (Therapeutic Recreation) was to discover what makes a person come alive, what is his/her passion, and to design a plan with achievable goals to enable that person to attain a higher level of morale/success.
I initially try to find what he/she is struggling with, and what strengths and weaknesses are present. I allow the person to ask questions in a fluid, spontaneous, "let's see as we tack ... read more

As a graduate of Tennessee Temple University in Elementary Education, I was compelled to reach out to the next generation with the knowledge that I had to share. For 32 years now my goal has been to help children achieve the skills necessary to equip them to reach their full potential. Then to use these skills to help them become successful and productive citizens. successful, productive citizens. Recently, I have worked with Preschool children while assisting my elderly Father to his retired life.

I have an ability to reach out to struggling students and find their comfort zone which enables them to progess in the learning process. I am very patient and want to achieve the best for each child. I believe a successful learning environment is composed of equal parts hard work and fun. Success breeds success, so my style involves building expertise through positive reinforcement as the student achieves progressively from the simple to the more complex. Throughout this process, I strive to connect what is being learned to the real world in order to show the student the value of what is being learned.
I have been an educator since 1974, teaching from grade 7 through the college undergraduate level. At the high school level, I taught English and government. During my college career, I was a faculty member in the Department of Kinesiology. Additionally, I ran the athletic study halls which involved tutorial work in numerous subjects. As a professional writer, I am skilled in all aspects of the English language.

My income averaged upwards of $50k annually. From 1998 to 2008, I worked in an overnight freight setting as a supervisor where I was responsible for orientation and training of new hires.
