Drawing is one of my top subjects! Majored in illustration from Savannah College of Art and Design, skilled in life drawing, plein aire and the mechanics of composition and the tools of the trade.

I prefer hands on, a back-and-forth style of learning where both I and the student have something to offer to the session. I like input from my students, and like including real world examples and application of the skills I'm teaching.
I've been involved in the arts since high school, and I graduated summa cum laude from one of the top arts colleges in the world, Savannah College of Art and Design. I earned a B.F.A in illustration, which I'm currently using to illustrate a series of graphic novels. I also have over 19 years of dance experience, had my poetry and short stories published numerous times, and enjoy working with others on things that we share a passion for.

English and Writing Tutor

I am a senior at the University of Tennessee and am majoring in Architecture. Coming from a background of advanced English classes at Oak Ridge High school, writing and composition is my strong suit. I have tutored an architecture student who was taking a writing intensive essay course on "Theory of Architecture" and helped her sharply improve her weekly grades on papers. Also, during my freshman year in college, my summer reading essay was chosen as one of the top out of thousands of incoming freshmen. I enjoy composing interesting and well formatted papers, no matter if they are research papers or creative writing papers.

My comments on tutoring Drawing : I focus on realistic drawing from life.

I am a visual learner, which is necessary in the art field. I never fully understand a new method or technique without seeing it and trying it with my own hands first. When teaching, I verbally explain the process and visually explain it (with examples or demonstrations), then the student and I work on it together, then the student tries on their own, with me standing by to answer questions or correct mistakes.
As an art educator, I was required to master many different mediums. I have practiced drawing, painting, two- and three-dimentional design, Photoshop, printmaking, jewelry-making, and photography. My emphasis is pottery. I can handbuild and work on the potter's wheel. I create excellently-crafted functional pieces. Few things bring me more pleasure than baking in something I have made with my own hands. I have experience teaching all ages of children and adults alike, and ca ... read more

I have a great love of teaching and guiding young people in their academic studies. My approach to teaching or tutoring is open and involves as much personal encouragement as I can. I believe it is essential for the student to have a desire to learn in order for retainable education and it is essential for the teacher/tutor to encourage this desire as much as possible through teaching practices and activities.

I have always loved children. Children are precious and all have very unique learning techniques. When I was a senior at Maryville High School, I taught Spanish to first graders. My partner and I were in charge of making lesson plans and fulfilling these plans for each class. I really enjoyed seeing the children get excited about learning.
I enjoy seeing children learn new things. I know that every child learns differently. It is important to get to know the children that you are teaching and figure out what teaching technique fits there needs. I feel like I do an excellent job of portraying what I am trying to teach.

A Little Bit About Me...

After graduating from the University of Miami, I taught Kindergarten, a 3rd/4th grade combination, 6th grade, and computers/technology. After having children, I transitioned to tutoring students, some with special needs including, dyslexia, auditory processing, traumatic brain injury, ADHD, and others. For the last 4 years, I have been a Reading Resource teacher, working with students in phonemic awareness, fluency, and comprehension. In my current job, I work with students in Kindergarten through the fourth grade. My students enjoy their time with me and have all improved their skills significantly. I have earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Miami University in history. I currently am enrolled at University of Tennessee at Chattanooga to obtain a Masters Degree in Education with a license to teach in the state of Tennessee in the middle grades. After graduating with a BA is History, I have worked as a Pre-Kindergarten Teacher, a Kindergarten Substitute Teacher, and an after school teacher for children 4 years through kindergarten.
I enjoy working with children, however, I don't feel I have one teaching style. I like to be able to adapt to how the children learn the best. My favorite teaching style is hands on activities such as experiments and crafts. I take pride in my creativity.

A Little Bit About Me...

I believe learning should be fun. In my experience I have found that if a student has fun and laughs during a lesson, he/she will remember the contents of the lesson more. I strive to create memorable experiences for my students. I am also patient teacher. Ideally, my students learn by investigating and drawing their own conclusions. I will serve as a guide and provide hints and correct answers. My goal is that the passion I have for learning and for the subjects I teach will ignite a passion in my students.
