Though I received my degree last June, most of my teaching experience came while I was still learning. In high school, I worked as a museum docent for after-school programs - at one point trying to convince 3rd graders that M.C. Escher's life and work were as exciting as the afternoon TV they were missing. While in college, I worked for Apple computer, teaching adults in one-on-one tutoring sessions in computer usage. My method of studying for my finals was to show up to study groups not to learn the answers, but to reinforce my own learning by explaining the relevant topics to my peers. I actually think I have tutored statistics at UCLA but cannot remember clearly - much of my tutoring has been in bits and pieces and volunteer or related to class work. In 2002 I taught a semester at Art Institute of California | San Diego. I wrote my own curriculum and taught four different classes in computer graphics (Adobe, Quark, Etc.) In college, I earned a Bachelor's degree in English literature and a minor in Hawaiian Studies. Most people I have worked with have difficulty understanding a couple of key points and once that obstacle is overcome learning accelerates until the next obstacle is reached. A Little Bit About Me...

Following my graduation from UHH, I was a substitute teacher and tutor for ESL students for 5 months. I have worked students coming from all types of backgrounds. Recently, I have begun substitute teaching again and have been for an additional 4 months. I enjoy working with the students and seeing them excel.
I enjoy giving the students individual attention. I noticed that often students are ashamed to ask for help or ask questions in front of the class. It is important to walk around the classroom and ask students how they are doing and if they understand the concepts. Many times it only then will a student accept help. Students have a wide range of learning styles. It is important to remember that when helping students. I like to break down a lesson into simpler ideas so it is easier to learn.
