A Little Bit About Me...

I love to teach and see the ideas light up the eyes of the person who suddenly got a concept. I think teaching should be adaptable and should fit the learning style of the student. Visual tasks, memory games, and hands-on-learning are, in my opinion, the best way to help someone truly learn (versus rote memory). I love to educate children of many ages I have a 4 year old and a 2 year old in the house. You teach many different aspects of life, not just academically. Being a tutor for grades 6-8 was different because they had the basics. They needed to be informed and focused. Substitute teaching grades K-8 was rather different because the children acted as though they haven't learned anything, so you had to make them feel comfortable. I took high school and college seriously. After college I worked for several years before attending law school. After law school I decided to combine my legal experience with hands-on medical skills, and I enrolled in a Registered Nurse program at SUNY Delhi, which I will complete next May. This summer is a lull before completing my education and embarking on a medical administration career.
I believe effective learning can occur in a 1-on-1 tutoring situation when the tutor and the student can communicate well. Tone, mood, and setting all come into play. A tutor who is relaxed, cheerful, encouraging, and resolutely intelligent is more likely to be approachable and someone the student will collaborate with successfully. I believe in active listening and working together to establish a method of studying.
