I've worked as a Learning Specialist for 6 years. I started at Mercy Learning in Mandeville and now have a private practice. I trained and began contracting to the Mercy Learning Center, Mandeville Campus as a Learning Specialist for nearly three years. While on staff at MLC I gained valuable insight working with children of differing diagnoses and levels of need, their parents, and clinical care providers. Because I am a very patient and detail oriented person, I feel it is best to adapt my teaching style to the student's learning style. I would first make that evaluation to determine how best to approach teaching the student. I enjoy using hands-on examples and Powerpoint presentations in teaching. I feel that one-on-one interaction will always help a child gain knowledge of a subject.

A Little Bit About Me...

I think the most useful tutor emphasizes critical thinking. I have noticed that many students focus on memorization instead of really understanding the processes behind science, math, and foreign languages. I try to focus on how and why things are, rather than just the fact that they are. I believe that this approach provides students with a deep understanding of the material and an ability to problem-solve on their own. They can then develop better comprehension, and tend to be more interested in learning.
I graduated with my undergraduate degree in marine biology in 2002 and then worked as a research biologist for two and a half years before returning to school to pursue my master’s degree.
