As a student, I am driven to understand the nature of things. As a teacher, I work to help others understand them. From my experience, I have learned to be patient with people who are afraid of failure and to push students who are easily bored with basic work. I have earned a bachelor's degree in computer science because computers are the tool with the most potential to enable us to understand the world, second only to the mind. My most recent department chair, Dr. Marie Jureit called me the best teacher on campus. I've taught and tutored students for 37 years in music theory and composition, music of Africa and Latin America, and mathematics through college freshman algebra. As Director of the Freshman Program, I was responsible for designing and implementing programs in developing reading and writing proficiency, and overall ability to succeed in academics.
