I would say that it is a little more toward laid back. Being over 6" tall, stocky, pushing hard, being an ogre, hard-nosed, that isn't going to work for me. People have a tendency to be a bit intimidated and fearful because of my size. I will use it to my advantage if it is necessary, or becomes necessary, but I've found being a little more quiet, reserved and coaxing the student to initiate the discussion is a little better. Ask leading questions, adjust and proceed, based on their response.
I have received degrees in Int'l Business from Lourdes College, as well an Associates Degree in Accounting from Owens Community College. While with the Ohio Air National Guard, participated in the Mentoring program with Township Elementary, Swanton Local Schools for five(5)-years. I have always believed everyone can learn and everyone has different learning styles. Finding what works for the student is often the key to life-long success. I have a great connection with students and am always a believer they can be successful. Patience, motivation and desire are essential to success.
I have experience in every level of student. My first degree (A.S.) was in Engineering and I worked at higher level math, including a college Teacher's Assistant in Calculus. I went on to obtain a B.S. in Education. I took the coursework for Middle and High School endorsements in 4 other subject areas. I work in Remedial Education at a local university currently.
