I believe the best teacher for a student is a student due to the easy connection. Everyone learns differently and I can help a student in the most efficent way for them to learn.
I have tutoring experience from family, and friends to jobs taken off of job sites. I have tutored many different courses before and will go out of my way to help a student in need if I am unsure of something. All of the subjects I put that I can tutor I can effectively help a student understand. I do not get frustrated and understand that different people learn different ways and will accommodate for that as best as possible.

I like to take the dry facts and rules of a subject and engage the students -- primarily through Harkness Mehtod discourse -- on the relevance of the subject and text to contemporary life, whether to absorb material or simply for the learning experience of deconstruction. Having the students write accomplished papers -- essay, research or argumentative -- is always a rewarding experience for myself and my students.

I have high expectations for all of my students. They know it, and when we're done, they're proud of what they've accomplished. I teach SAT, for example, and expect all of my students to earn at least a 9 out of 12 on the essay portion. I coach each one on employing his or her strengths to produce a good essay. With beginners, I focus on organizing the presentation, clear declarative sentences, and effective use of transitions to keep things moving. Then we progress to varying sentence types and common vocabulary (for example, don't say "very" all the time; use "extremely", "powerfully", "excessively", "dramatically". Same with "nice", "bad", and the perennial favorite "awesome.") Analyzing other students' essays provides a model and some metacognition (without the jargon) for students. My passion is for empowering young adults; perhaps the mantra is "educate to elevate". I have been told I build trust quickly, especially with difficult-to-reach students. A Little Bit About Me...

I have found that I have a passion for teaching children of all ages. For that reason, I am pursuing a career in teaching. I have taken the Communications and Literacy MTEL and will be taking the Elementary Math MTEL on May 9th of this year. I find the best way to help a student is to find out what they are passionate about.
