Early Childhood Education Major Experienced in Tutoring

I believe in structured education while leaving plenty of room to facilitate learning through creativity and exploration. A Little Bit About Me...

I have 20 years experience in the marines, so I have a no nonsense approach to teaching and tutoring. My own two children (boys, now grown) will tell you that despite my military bearing, I am patient and understanding with kids. I believe the best way to teach children (or anyone) is to create the conditions that will encourage and allow them to teach themselves. I believe that adults model for children continuously. Children mimic our thought processes and our problem solving techniques. We teach best through example. All students learn at different levels. I like to incorporate all the learning styles of students. Some learn by hands-on, others by listening, and some by writing. These are all used by me. Each student has their own learning style and a teacher has to help each find what works for each student and then incorporate this to meet the needs for that particular student. Education cannot be mass-produced. One style does not fit all. Reading is extremely important to the success of a student. Education is the most valuable tool and weapon to get out of poverty; and it is something no one can ever take away from you.
