I have found, through teaching a wide variety of people a wide variety of subjects, that there is no one way to reach someone. Everyone has individual strengths and weaknesses. What I have found, however, is requisite to meet the needs of all students is respect for the learner. Without the requisite respect and encouragement, struggling students find it easy to give up and continue to believe that they aren't able to learn the material being presented. With respect and understanding for the students' needs, along with patience, preparedness and open communication, I feel I am able to reach students who are willing to be reached, and some who initially aren't so willing.

It is widely acknowledged that students learn in a variety of ways. In a tutoring environment, I believe in discovering each student’s optimal learning strategy, as well as identifying techniques for making other styles of teaching accessible. In the process of earning my BA in History (minor in Archaeology), I became familiar with a broad range of historical subjects. My certificate in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) gave me a familiarity with mathematics and statistics, as well as conventions of scientific research and reporting.
