A Little Bit About Me...

I have just about ten years teaching grades pre-k through eight grade. I took the requirements to obtain a teaching minor and certification, except the student teaching and the test because I decided to switch gears and go to law school. I am experienced in both the Michigan Grade Level Expectations as well as the Michigan's Adaptation of the Common Core Curriculum. I have taught students who are both intellectually advanced as well as those who experience challenges with learning and have had great success with both. When I decided to go to law school, I worked full time as a teacher and excelled in law school graduating in the top 15% of my class. I also had success in raising standardized testing scores for the majority of students in my 5th grade classroom.

I have been a tutor for 23 years and I have taught Adult Basic Education for 12 years. I am still continuing my education to receive a Masters degree and plan to get my PhD. I work for a community college and have done advising, enrollment, testing, phone directory, and student sevices. I have attended many professional development workshops on education.
Critical thinking skills and untraditional ways are what I focus on. However the way someone learns, I will try to set the individual up to show how they learn and work with them. I will implement practices and materials I think will fit the student's profile. I feel a teacher wears many hats and you must be prepared to wear a different one any day.

I have been attending classes at Schoolcraft Community College for almost 2 years. In that time I have worked with many peers in study group sessions, one on one, etc. This past semester was spent tutoring a student that was recommended to me by one of my previous professors in math. The subject was college-level algebra and through our cooperative efforts she achieved a 3.0 in the class.
