I have enjoyed the personal gratification of tutoring since high school. Since I was 15 years old, I have shared my knowledge and love of mathematics with people of all ages. I have been a tutor for 23 years and I have taught Adult Basic Education for 12 years. I am still continuing my education to receive a Masters degree and plan to get my PhD. I work for a community college and have done advising, enrollment, testing, phone directory, and student sevices. I have attended many professional development workshops on education.
Critical thinking skills and untraditional ways are what I focus on. However the way someone learns, I will try to set the individual up to show how they learn and work with them. GED is one of my top subjects!

I teach to the individual as well as to the group. In the classroom, I use the chalk/marker board, text and handout materials, and computers if available. Outside the classroom (libraries or other public meeting place, I bring my own instructional materials.

My comments on tutoring GED : I have tutored students preparing for the GED.

It is important to me that all children reach their best potential in whatever grade I am teaching. I have been in the teaching profession for 20 years and each day brings something different. I find in counseling I have to lead people to come up with their own solutions without telling them the answer. This involves showing them how to get there and teaching them the skills. If any of my friends or coworkers would describe me it would be as a patient person. I think it takes a lot of patience to tutor especially if the student is having trouble grasping a concept. You have to be creative in how you explain it to them. Everyone has a different learning style whether it is audio or visual. I think it’s important the student feels comfortable to voice frustration and ask to go over something again.
