Chess Lessons with a Top Ranked Female

I am ranked 35th on the top US Women's List, and have been teaching chess to children ranging from beginner to intermediate levels both privately and in various Elementary school programs. I love teaching kids how to think ahead, use their creativity and believe in themselves. What I teach varies on child to child to basis, after an assessment of their current level in chess I cater to their needs. I look forward to working with your child, and teaching the most amazing game on the planet.
I teach all the basics of chess starting with all the rules, chess tactics, terms, concepts, how to write chess moves, analyze and understand positions, and going over classic games of masters and how to apply it to your own play. I make it fun and interesting, and I"m very patient.

Chess is one of my top subjects!

At age 11 I achieved the title of Master, and since then have become an International Master (with 1 Grandmaster norm), 5-time National Champion, North American Junior Champion, and am currently the #1 19-year-old on the west coast of the United States. Without chess instruction from the most patient, inspiring, and hardworking chess coaches none of this would have been possible. I began to play chess at 7 years old and after my coach ended our first class by saying, "Every champion was once a beginner" my youthful imagination ran wild and I was hooked. My early development in chess proved to be nontraditional where my structured classes provided by my school were supplemented by the aggressive, unconventional playing styles I learned from spending my weekends sneaking games in with hustlers at my local chess park. Yet learning these vastly different approaches to the game allowed me ... read more

I am currently a tutor at the the University of Notre Dame where I tutor both athletes and calculus 1,2 and 3. I grade and help form the test bank for exams so I am well versed in how calculus and lower grades of math are formed on the test and can identify a typical test question so we can focus on what really counts as well as learning the material as efficiently as possible.

Chess is one of my top subjects! I have been a teacher at Chess Wizards in Chicago, Illinois for about five months now. I know how to work well with kids and can easily teach them the fundamentals of the game.

I prefer to have an open environment where everyone can learn at the same time and same pace. Getting the kids involved into the work makes it more fun for everyone.

My comments on tutoring Chess : Very fun intellectual mind game.

I can teach either one to one or multiple kids. I have dealt with both cases and I when I am dealing with multiple kids I try to pair them up by their struggles so that they can overcome the obstacle together. I try to focus on what my pupil are struggling on and go over that with more detail then that of the stuff they already know. I teach the material at a pace that is right for everyone but I slow down if anyone needs me too.
I started tutoring in middle school in the field of math, science and history. When I was in High School I tutored kids for the clubs I was in such as the Spanish Honors Society, Math Club, National Honors Society, and California Scholarship Federation. On top of tutoring kids at my high school I would tutor elementary kids that were taking the high school placement exam on weekends at my high school. Now that I am in college I work in teams of 4 or 5 to h ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I enjoy tutoring, both with children and adults. I enjoy being able to take something that people deem as difficult and explain it in a way that they can understand it and apply it like they never did before. I am very patient and friendly and can relate to my students. I am also good at having them relate to the subject, thereby showing them the importance of what they are learning as it pertains to them. I enjoy watching their faces light up as they not only start to understand the material, but gain confidence that they can do more. All of my students have commented that they wish their teachers could have explained concepts the way I have and that they enjoyed my sessions.

A Little Bit About Me...

I'm a big believer of motivation and encouragement. Once the kids are motivated when they feel the bonding, learning success will be achieved in a faster speed. I'd like to talk to the children every day to find out how their days went and their concerns and challenges especially if they feel they're capable of handling of the situation and their ways of doing such.
I'm very passionate to help kids to be successful in school as well as in life. I've had 6 years of working as Student Aides in all levels of K-12; Math, English, Writing, and Arts, 5 years working as Teacher for Career Colleges: Websters, Phillip Jr., and University of Phoenix; Math, Computer Software Applications, Writing, Professional development, Accounting,Statistic, Student coaching, and Piano.
