My comments on tutoring Computer Programming : I hold a Ph.D. in Mathematics and an M.S. in Statistics and have experience teaching undergraduates and graduates.

My diverse skills and experience in mathematics, statistics, and computer programming should be advantageous in this circumstance. I have worked with mathematical software and statistical models since 1989 and love doing collaborative statistical and mathematical research to solve challenging problems. I hold a PhD in Mathematics and a Master’s Degree in Statistics. I recently worked as an independent machine learning consultant. In this capacity, I dealt routinely with HMM (Hidden Markov) models, neural networks, and LSA and LDA analysis of text data. In the classroom I rely on traditional lecture, supplemented by Powerpoint presentations, animations, and lists and diagrams on the white board. I usually assign a research paper. In the last few semesters I've implemented through Blackboard some online testing, as well as tutorial "homework" quizzes, where the students get feedback directing them to coverage of particular sections of the text. I always try to make students aware of how the detailed, technical concepts of the moment fit into the "big picture," making references both to material previously covered and to material yet to come.
