I try to empower students to learn how to improve their writing. I start by showing what works well, the strengths of the piece itself. I then show them what can be improved in the work with further revision. I often will use examples of first drafts of famous and acclaimed authors, and sometimes use my own work as an example of poor first drafts and how a work can improve with revision.
