I am firm, fair, and friendly. I adapt lessons to the student's learning style, bearing in mind what the student needs for success in the classroom. I make learning fun. In 2000 I volunteered in the local high school's journalism class because of my passion for writing. The following year I was offered a position as yearbook adviser, and I further developed my skills with high school students. Since 2004 I have been a private tutor, teaching all elementary subjects as well as most middle school and high school curriculum. In 2005 I began teaching annual writing workshops at Simpson College for 6th - 12th grade students. In 2006 I attended substitute teacher training, and I began substitute teaching in 2009. Since graduating from college, I have been instructing professionals and employees in safety behavior and safety management processes. I have learned extensive grammatical skills in the military, during my assignment as an inspector on the Inspector General (IG) team. I performed proof reading and report writing for two years. My parents were elementary and algebra teachers. There were numerous occasions I assisted them with correcting tests during my high school years. My best accomplishments have been tutoring my four children in their subjects, primarily math, over the last five years. I really enjoy getting people of all ages to learn. My day job is with Easter Seals where I work with all ages and disabilities. With both Easter Seals and tutoring, I found that it requires a wide variety of approaches to get my clients to learn. I have learned a lot of patience and creativity in this time. I have been constantly surprised and pleased when my students and I are able to achieve new heights in life-skills and the classroom.
